Akken's origins go back to 1999 when Giridhar Akkineni (Akken Founder & CEO) founded InterWorldNet, an IT staffing firm located in Rocky Hill, CT. While trying to find an integrated software solution that would automate the mundane day to day operations of his own staffing business, Giridhar realized no solution existed for the SMB market. While there where many adequate applicant tracking systems on the market, they only simplified one function of a staffing firm's business and did not resolve the disconnection with other front and back office applications such as email, customer relationship management, employee management, payroll, billing, accounting and reporting.
It was then Giridhar realized the tremendous opportunity to provide an integrated, All-in-One software system that would offer thousands of small to medium-sized firms the capability of running their businesses efficiently and cost effectively compared with stand-alone point solutions that where too expensive and over-kill for their needs. Giridhar closed his IT staffing firm to put all his energy into the R&D of what today is known as Akken Staffing. Akken was incorporated in March 2005 and Akken Staffing was brought to market in June of 2007. To date, Akken has raised over $5 million from private angel investors.
Currently, Akken Staffing is the only fully integrated front and back office software system that is delivered as Software-as-a-Service.
